PHETCHABUNPhetchabun is located in the lower northern part ofThailand surrounded by green forest. Its geographycomprises beautiful scenery of both Khao Kho and the NamNao National Parks. Interesting historical attractions arethe Si Thep Historical Park which was granted the Award ofExcellence for the Cultural Site of the 2000 Thailand TourismAward. Moreover, well-known dishes and fruits ofthe province are the grilled chicken of Wichian Buri, KhanomChin - Thai rice-flour noodles - of Lom Khao, as well as,Mueang Phet’s sweet tamarind and passion fruit.It is assumed that Phetchabun was established in 2 periods.The First Period is during the Sukhothai Kingdom, noticedfrom the ridge of the city wall and the location of the river atthe city centre. The Second Period is during the reign of KingNarai the Great. During that period, there were brick andstone walls and fortresses which were assumed to be similarto those of Nakhon Ratchasima city but smaller and lower.The river was also in the middle of the city. Phetchabunduring both periods was constructed in this matter in orderto prevent the evasion of the enemies from the North.Phetchabun was originally called “Phetchabura” or“Phichapura”, meaning the city of crops. The city isapproximately 346 kilometres from Bangkok and 114 metresabove sea level. Geographically, it is a plain similar to a pan.It possesses a steep area sloping from the North tothe South. In the northern part are high mountains, whilethe plains are at the centre, and the Phetchabun Range onboth eastern and western sides.
