Legend saysThao Kham Phong, Thao Thit Phrom and ThaoKam, descendants of Phra Wo and Phra Ta,escaped from King Siribunsan of Vientianeinto the Siamese Kingdom during the reignof King Taksin the Great. They later built a newcity at Dong U Phueng, close to the Mun River.In 1780, King Taksin the Great named the cityUbon Ratchathaniand appointed Thao KhamPhong to be “Phra Pathum Wongsa” as the firstruler.
