TRANGTrang used to be a port involved in foreign trade. It wasthe first cit y where rubber was planted. PhrayaRatsadanupradit Mahison Phakdi brought rubber fromMalaysia and planted it here before anywhere else insouthern Thailand in 1899. As such, rubber is nowconsidered an impor tant commodity of Thailand.The important Trang River flows through the province fromits origin in the Khao Luang Mountain Range and the PalianRiver from the Banthat Mountain Range.Trang is a coastal province on the Indian Ocean with a longwestern coastline of about 119 kilometres. The provinceconsists of an archipelago in the Andaman Sea with over46 islands. Of these, 12 are in Amphoe Kantang, 13 inAmphoe Palian, and 21 in Amphoe Sikao.
